14TH ANNUAL HEART & SOLTICE EVENT RAISES $153,000 FOR BROCKVILLE GENERAL HOSPITAL’S CARDIAC PROGRAM

June 24TH, 2022:  It was a bittersweet evening for the planning committee of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation’s (BDHF) Annual Heart & Solstice event. After 13 years of raising funds for Brockville General Hospital’s (BGH) Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, the 14th Anniversary event, that was held on Thurs., June 16th was the final chapter for raising funds for BGH’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

In early March of 2022, BGH announced that it would be assuming the funding of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program effective April 1, 2022. The BDHF, and the Heart & Solstice planning committee were pleased that there would no longer be pressure to raise the needed funds that amounted to $181,000 annually to sustain the program. Not to be deterred, the event planning committee took the news in stride and were determined to raise funds for an equipment item that would be of benefit to cardiac patients at BGH. With that thought in mind, it was decided, with the help of BGH clinical staff, to raise funds for an ultrasound with echocardiogram capabilities.

June 16th arrived and under threatening skies, the 14th Annual Heart & Solstice event took place at the beautiful Thornton Cliff Estate. Eventually, the skies cleared and the attendees arrived. The gracious hostess for the evening, Rosemary Sexton opened her doors to allow attendees to tour her historical estate, enjoy catered food and refreshments. The rain held off for the duration of the social gathering and an astounding $153,000 was raised.
