MEDtalks Kicks Off 2026 with Engaging Discussion on Concurrent Disorders

MEDtalks launched its first session of 2026 at the Aquatarium on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 with a well-attended and informative discussion focused on Understanding Concurrent Disorders, bringing important conversations about mental health and addiction to the community.

Despite wintery conditions, a packed audience gathered to hear from an experienced and diverse panel of guest speakers, including Jessica Besharah, Peer Support Worker; Melinda Billett, Nurse Practitioner; and physicians Dr. Andy Thomas and Dr. Andrew Everett.

The speakers shared valuable insights into the opioid crisis and related addictions, highlighting their significant impact on mental health within our community. Their candid, compassionate, and informative messages sparked meaningful dialogue and reflection among attendees.

Trish Buote, Executive Director of the Brockville & District Hospital Foundation, thanked everyone who braved the weather to attend and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the speakers for openly sharing their knowledge and lived experiences. She emphasized the importance of ongoing community education and connection around complex health challenges such as concurrent disorders. Trish also extended sincere thanks to Thomas Harder and the Aquatarium for their generosity in hosting the event and helping create a welcoming space for community learning.
